Age 94 of Batavia, formerly of Sugar Grove, passed away peacefully as she slept at home, early Thursday morning, June 28, 2007. Marian was born on June 21, 1913 in Aurora, IL, the daughter of Charles and Josephine (Torp) Ernst. &#13;
&#13;
She grew up in Aurora where she graduated from East Aurora High School with the class of 1931 and met Ed Saloga. Ed had moved to Aurora from Morris, IL and both loved to play tennis at the city park (Phillips Park, Aurora). They were married September 1, 1934 in Hammond, IN and they made their home in Aurora. &#13;
&#13;
Though these were the Depression years and no one had many material things, Ed and Marian had each other. Ed began building houses in 1948. In 1953, Ed and Marian moved to Sugar Grove and built the Illini Motel. Marian managed the motel for many years. They later built the House of Plenty Restaurant and their own home in Dugan Woods, Sugar Grove. &#13;
&#13;
Marian had a love of nature. She enjoyed their cabin on the Menominee River near Wausaukee, WI where her family would gather in the summer and fall for swimming, fishing and walking in the woods. After Marian and Ed retired, they loved to travel. They traveled the United States, Europe and Mexico where Marian, who was a birdwatcher, studied the birds.Marian was devoted to her family. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with a passion. &#13;
&#13;
She was a member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church and in numerous bridge clubs. She liked to play all kinds of card games and was also an avid reader.In addition to her older sister, Caroline Olsen of State college, PA, Marian is survived by:two daughters:Beverly (Peter) Bambachtof Crivitz, WI andJoan (Richard) Campbell of Marinette, WI;Two sons:Edward C. (Barbara) Saloga of Sugar Grove, IL andWilliam (Nila) Saloga of Batavia, IL;Twelve grandchildren: Karen (James) Plosczynski of Wausaukee, WIChristine (William) Bailey of San Jose, CA,Kelly (Joseph)Wagner of Wallace, MI,Craig (Julie) Campbell of Waterford, WI, Richard E. (Laura) Campbell of Menominee, MI,Heather (Frank) Kotecki of Glendale, WI,Edward W. (Sue) Saloga of Sugar Grove, IL, Douglas (Renee) Saloga of Hartland, WI,April Saloga of Chicago, IL,William (Julie) Saloga of Batavia, IL,Charles and Alexander Saloga of Batavia, IL andTwenty-six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 1 brother, Martin Ernst and one sister Edith Olsen. &#13;

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 1, 2007 from 4-7PM, at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL, and Monday, July 2, at church, prior to the funeral, from 9:30am to 10:15am.Funeral services will follow Monday, July 2 at 10:30am, at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, Sugar Grove, IL. The Rev. Steve Good will officiate. Following cremation, private family committal services will later be held.MEMORIAL A memorial has been established in her name to benefit the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church and other favorite charities. Checks may be made to the "Marian Saloga Memorial" and mailed in care of P.O. Box 66, Elburn, IL 60119.
