It was a two story building on the east side of Main Street about where the street now ends near the present Route 30. The first floor was school rooms and the second floor was a large meeting room known as the Town Hall or Town House. History records that on the afternoon of November 10, 1873, the building burned to the ground as the result of some pranks by young boys. The Normal and Industrial School was built that year, and the new Town Hall was just north of it, where the Community House now stands. She was born to Lois Pittaway and Harold Humiston Ravlin on May 31, 1917 on a farm in Kaneville, Illinois where she grew up and went to school until moving to Sugar Grove, Illinois on the Bliss farm in 1932. She married Thomas T. Frantz of Sugar Grove on July 2, 1939, in the farm house living room. They lived in Aurora during the war years, in Sugar Grove from 1946 to 1952 (in the oldest house in the township which is now the office of the Sugar Grove Historical Society), and back in Aurora ever since. She was PTA President of the Sugar Grove Grade School, Center School in Aurora, and East High School, worked at the Beacon-News and later at Brady School, and sang in the choir and was active in Fourth Street Methodist Church for 54 years. Emily is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Tom of Aurora; four children, Dr. Tom (Donna) Frantz, a university professor in Buffalo, NY, Dr. Jeffrey (Yvette) Frantz, a United Church of Christ minister in Miami Lakes, FL, Doug (Dianne) Frantz, president of Gulliford Sales in Minneapolis, MN and Lois (Joe) Yoches, former high school tennis coach in Peoria, IL; 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; and her only sibling, Lloyd Ravlin of Romeoville, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents. Emily's passion besides her family was her painting and artwork. She was a member of the Aurora Art League, showing her work in various art shows in the area for 30 years. A memorial visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at the Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave. (Rt. 31) in Batavia. A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 22, at the Fourth Street Methodist Church, 551 Fourth Street, Aurora, IL. Interment will be private in the Sugar Grove Cemetery next to the farm where she lived as a teenager. She will be remembered as loving, wise, steadfast, gentle, and the best wife and mother we ever could have imagined. Memorials in Emily's name may be directed to the Fourth Street Methodist Church.
