Mrs. Tryphena Thompson

Had been resident of Kane County Seventy Years – Native of Vermont

The death of Mrs. Tryphena Thompson of Galena Street, probably the oldest woman resident of this locality, and well known among a large portion of the community, occurred this morning at six o’clock. Mrs. Thompson was in her ninety-seventh year and death came as a result of general debility.

Deceased was born in Peru, Vermont, March 18, 1812, and fore more than seventy years had lived in and about Sugar Grove, Kaneville and Aurora. She lived in Aurora for twenty-five years her home being at 67 1/2 Galena Street. She was the widow of the late J. Holmes Thompson, a retired farmer, whose death occurred in 1891.

She is survived by but few relatives in this part of the country, among them being her nephews, B.H. and E.W. Thompson, and a grandson, Lewis H. Rice. A number of nephews and nieces reside in the east.

Mrs. Thompson was a woman of remarkable strength of character, and until recently her unusual vitality was shown by great physical activity. She was prominent in all affairs in the First Baptist church.

The funeral will be held from her late home Wednesday morning at ten o’clock. Interment at Kaneville. It is requested that all floral tributes be omitted.

SPOTLIGHT

Did you know that the former president is now a pitcher for the Legion baseball team?

That is - the former president of his sophomore class, Mick McCannon is the pitcher for the Legion team during the summer months. Now a senior at Kaneland, seventeen year old Mick has been busily preparing for his future.

He has belonged to the Latin Club and has had the honor of being chosen to go to Boys State in Springfield. In addition to school work and social functions, Mike also holds down a part time job at Mike's Standard Service Station in Sugar Grove where he is an attendant.

Like all boys he likes to have plenty of time to sleep and equally long time to enjoy his favorite food, sirloin steak.

In his spare time, Mike can be found swimming or playing basketball, not to mention his numerous rides from Sugar Grove to Maple Park.

Along with the things he enjoys, Mick also has a pet peeve. It is that Sunday driver who hurries and pulls out in front of you, only to turn off at the next corner.

After graduating from Kaneland, Mick plans on joining the service with the hope of being trained as a jet pilot.</text>
