"War Department, Washington, April 15, 1865, 9:10 A.M. Major General Dix, New York --

The President continues insensible and sinking. Secretary Seward remains without change; Frederick Seward's skull is fractured in two places, besides a severe cut upon the head. The attendant is still alive but hopeless. Major Seward's wounds are not dangerous.

"It is now ascertained with reasonable certainty, that two assassins were engaged in the horrible crime, Wilkes Booth being the one that shot the President, and the other accomplice, whose name is not know, but whose description is so clear that he can hardly escape.

"It appears from papers found in Booth's trunk that the murder was planned before the 4th of March, but fell through then, because the accomplice backed out until 'Richmond could be heard from.'

"Booth and his accomplice were at the livery stable at 6 o'clock last evening, and left here with their horses at 10 o'clock, or shortly before that hour.

"It would appear that they had, for several days been seeking their chance, but for some unknown reason it was not carried into affect until last night."

John Outlaw’s family cabin was built in the 1850s on the Silas Reynolds property approximately 0.5 miles south of Prairie Street and 1 mile east of Route 47. According to the 1871 Map of Sugar Grove Township from the Atlas of Kane County, the cabin site might have been close to the area denoted as “Maple Grove” on the map.

In November of 2005, an archeological dig was conducted at the cabin site. Among those who attended were J. Eric Deetz, Pat Paxton, Bob O'Neall, Suzanne Weimer, Ruth Frantz, Dick Paxton, and Jason Rugg.

Artifacts that were uncovered included:
* Outlaw’s well
* Outlaw’s cistern lined with lime stone mortar
* Outlaw’s rain barrel hole (a metal tooth filling was found inside)
* Pottery pieces

Aurora, Elgin and Chicago Railroad: This line ran west from its connection with the Metropolitan West Side Elevated Railroad Company and had four branches with western terminals along the Fox River in the same towns that the Fox River Line served. Even though the two divisions were part of the same company from 1906 - 1919, they were always operated separately with different equipment, repair facilities and employees. In August of 1919, the AE&C went into receivership, both divisions emerging from bankruptcy in the early 1920's. They were separated and renamed. The third rail division to Chicago (former AE&C) was renamed the Chicago, Aurora and Elgin Railroad (CA&E) and the Fox River Division was renamed the Aurora, Elgin and Fox River Electric Company (AE&FRE).</text>
